The manufacturing sector grew by 31,000 jobs in February, according to the latest employment data from the Labor Department. Primary metals added 4,000 jobs, while fabricated metals gained 6,000 jobs, the department reported.
Said Alliance for American Manufacturing (AAM) President Scott Paul:
"With the economy growing, manufacturing on the upswing, and businesses flush with cash from the tax cut, there's never been a better time to level the playing field for our steel communities. With 31,000 manufacturing jobs added in February, and more on the way in places like Granite City, Illinois and Hawesville, Kentucky, I'm very optimistic about the benefits of the tariffs.
"What a great week for factory workers."
ICYMI: U.S. Steel announced on Wednesday it is bringing back 500 workers and restarting a blast furnace at its Granite City plant, while Century Aluminum plans to hire up to 300 new workers at its smelter in Kentucky.
