House Introduces Trade Enforcement Act

As the House of Representatives prepares to take up Trade Promotion Authority (TPA), Rep. Mike Bost (R-IL) has introduced legislation to strengthen enforcement and administration of existing U.S. trade laws.

In a letter sent to Reps. Mike Bost (R-IL) and Rodney Davis (R-IL), Alliance for American Manufacturing (AAM) President Scott Paul said:

“These [trade] laws have been weakened over time and have become a less-effective tool to counter 21st century predatory practices by China and other trade cheaters.

“This important bipartisan legislation would ensure that the Department of Commerce uses appropriate information to make a well-informed decision on the extent of cheating. And, it modernizes the ‘injury’ standard used by the International Trade Commission (ITC) so that timely determinations can be made before irreparable harm in the form of plant closures and layoffs occurs.”

AAM strongly supports the passage of the American Trade Enforcement Effectiveness Act (H.R. 2523). This legislation mirrors similar efforts in the Senate by Ohio Sens. Sherrod Brown and Rob Portman.
