On Thursday, October 31, Alliance for American Manufacturing (AAM) President Scott Paul sent a letter to U.S. Trade Representative Michael Froman regarding the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) trade agreement.
Said AAM President Scott Paul:
The TPP is intended as a framework for our nation’s trade liberalizing policies in the future. You have heard frequently and with great clarity about the necessity of addressing the issue of currency manipulation, with 60 Senators and 230 House members calling for inclusion of enforceable mechanisms. This is critical to ensuring that our policies are to be successful and that any bargained-for-benefits are not negated after a deal is signed by predatory market distortions. Market access issues are also key to success. The comprehensive agenda the Administration has laid out must be fulfilled and we must not accept lowered ambitions in the hope of meeting an arbitrary deadline. America’s producers and their workers will support an approach that opens foreign markets and ensures that our competitors will follow a robust set of rules which must be vigorously enforced.
