Writing for Forbes yesterday, Caleb Melby profiled the Hershey company's most recent investment in American manufacturing — a brand new, $300 million facility.
While the cutting edge technology used at the plant may not lead to new-hires, according to Forbes, "the company estimates that it will still produce $1 billion in economic gains for Pennsylvania over the course of five years — coming in the form of supplier contracts, payroll and related spending."The company is training existing employees to use the new equipment. The Alliance for American Manufacturing (AAM) has often stressed the importance of better training for workers.
The article also indicates that the Hershey plant gets most of its milk (300,000-350,000 gallons per day) from within a 90-mile radius of its factory.
