In 1903, George “Stormy” Kromer, a locomotive engineer, needed a hat that stayed snug in the wind, so he came up with a novel take on the baseball cap and asked his wife, Ida, to sew it. Stormy’s new hat quickly caught the attention of his colleagues, prompting the Kromers to begin manufacturing and selling it in 1909. Today, Stormy Kromer sells not only hats, but also coats, vests, shirts, and bags for men and women.
