Nine in 10 Americans say it is important to have rules to stop currency cheats.
There’s a social media campaign going on right now that very clearly describes just how concerned Americans are about the lack of strong trade rules in the Trans-Pacific Partnership.
Now, I’m not a numbers man myself. But some people like data. They like statistics. They need cold, hard figures to be convinced of public opinion. Because figures don’t lie.
Neither does a new Ipsos poll: A big majority of Americans think Congress should oppose trade deals that don’t prohibit currency manipulation. And here’s a delightful kicker: Nearly half are more likely to vote for a Member of Congress if they vote to stop currency manipulation.
Some more findings:
- 9 in 10 Americans say it is important to have rules to prevent currency manipulation.
- 8 in 10 Americans prefer to protect jobs when asked to choose between access to goods and American manufacturing jobs.
- 73 percent of Americans say that Congress should oppose trade deals that do not prohibit currency manipulation.
