The United Steelworkers are raising money for members of the Trade Union of the Metalworkers and Miners of Ukraine who have now taken up arms to fight Russia.
Workers at the ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih steel mill in Ukraine are now on the frontlines defending their country against Russian President Vladimir Putin’s invasion — and you can help.
The United Steelworkers are raising money to help supply these workers, who are members of the Trade Union of the Metalworkers and Miners of Ukraine. The funds raised will be used to purchase items “ranging from helmets to socks to bandages” so the Ukrainian steel workers “can continue to defend their city and their loved ones,” according to the United Steelworkers.
“As this war drags on, and their need grows ever greater, we know Steelworkers will continue to stand in global solidarity with Ukrainian workers, doing everything we can to help them withstand these atrocities,” the United Steelworkers write on the donation page.
The Trade Union of the Metalworkers and Miners of Ukraine recently asked fellow union members around the world for support, noting that they need supplies like body armor, kevlar helmets, thermal imagers, walkie-talkies, and military boots. They also need things like gloves and socks, along with bandages and other medical supplies.
