Said Scott Paul, Executive Director of the Alliance for American Manufacturing (AAM):
"This
jobs report still isn’t good enough. Manufacturing, which had been
contributing an outsized share of growth, fell flat again, with only
5,000 jobs added in October. Manufacturing job growth over the past four
months has averaged 250 jobs per month compared to 23,300 per month for
the first six months of this year. It’s clear that manufacturing
employment is stalling, which should be alarming to anyone concerned
about the job prospects for Americans who do not possess a four year
college degree.
"Meanwhile, Congress dithers. There is no jobs
agenda in the House of Representatives, and partisan politics are
impeding progress in the Senate. There are plenty of effective steps Congress could take
to spur manufacturing employment: targeted tax assistance, investments
in infrastructure and innovation, and a more aggressive trade policy to
boost exports and level the playing field for American workers and
businesses. We have outlined a bipartisan, common-sense plan for job growth. It’s time for Congress to step up and do the right thing."
