Manufacturing sector adds 50,000 jobs in January: Alliance for American Manufacturing (AAM) Statement
The latest monthly jobs figures were released this morning and show that the U.S. manufacturing sector gained 50,000 jobs in January 2012. The most recent months where manufacturing gained roughly 50,000 or more jobs were:
- January 2011: 49,000
- August 1998: 142,000
Scott Paul, Executive Director of the Alliance for American Manufacturing (AAM), commented on the latest jobs numbers:
"The 50,000 manufacturing jobs added in January is impressive.
January recorded the highest monthly gain in factory jobs since August
1998. The surge in job growth is a clear sign that American
manufacturing can be competitive globally. I believe it is possible to
keep this momentum going. President Obama is right to focus on an array
of policies to boost domestic manufacturing jobs, and we need Congress
to act. There is still a long way to go to get manufacturing jobs and
output above pre-recession levels."
