Manufacturing Gained 28,000 Jobs in February: AAM Statement

Policy needed for ongoing manufacturing jobs recovery

The manufacturing sector gained 28,000 jobs in February, according to the latest employment data from the Labor Department. While transportation equipment lost 6,000 jobs, food manufacturing and machinery gained a total of 16,000 jobs.

Said Alliance for American Manufacturing (AAM) President Scott Paul:

"Factory workers received some good news today. The manufacturing sector has seen growth the last few months, showing that revitalization is possible with the right policies.

"If this growth is to continue, the administration and Congress must commit to sustainable infrastructure investment with Buy American preferences, strong trade enforcement, smart tax policies, and tools that address currency manipulation.

"Working-class voters are watching, and they are counting on action."

AAM tracks three key metrics to help analyze the state of manufacturing — jobs, trade and capacity utilization. The latest figures show that manufacturing has experienced some growth despite the expanding trade deficit.
