Alliance for American Manufacturing applauds bipartisan introduction of National Manufacturing Strategy Act

Wed, 04/06/2011

U.S. Sens. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) and Mark Kirk (R-IL) today announced the introduction of the bipartisan National Manufacturing Strategy Act of 2011

Alliance for American Manufacturing (AAM) Executive Director Scott Paul praised the bipartisan effort, saying:

"We salute Senators Sherrod Brown and Mark Kirk for their leadership in developing a national manufacturing strategy. America stands alone as the only industrial nation that lacks a cohesive manufacturing strategy. In order to rebuild our manufacturing base and create good middle-class jobs, our federal government needs to deploy a coordinated set of trade, tax, training, procurement, and investment policies.  The Alliance for American Manufacturing stands ready to work with Senators Sherrod Brown and Mark Kirk to move this legislation forward as a first step towards getting our government back on the side of domestic manufacturing and our workers."

AAM has long advocated a national manufacturing strategy, including key initiatives needed to revitalize the U.S. industrial base.

In the House, Rep. Dan Lipinski (D-IL) has introduced similar legislation aimed at bolstering U.S. manufacturing.  It is the same bill that passed last year with strong bipartisan support.
