China Radio is Coming!

As a growing economic power and technological leader, China presents a threat to the global economy, not because of their success, but because of their unfair practices such as currency manipulation, subsidization, and product dumping.
But now China is exercising its influence over the West in the most viral of ways--via media outlets. KGBC is an American-owned and operated radio station in Galveston, Texas that has content provided by a state-owned Chinese broadcaster. According to an article in the Wall Street Journal:
The little Texas station may be modest, but it is part of a multibillion-dollar effort by the Chinese government to expand its influence around the world. As China rises as a global force, its leaders think their country is routinely mischaracterized and misunderstood and that China needs to spread its point of view on everything from economics to art to counter the influence of the West.Pretty scary stuff. Giant Chinese media conglomerates such as the Xinhua News Agency and China Central Television are adding bureaus, increasing content and broadcasting in a multitude of languages. But what's most frightening, perhaps, is the fact that this media push is backed by "a Communist Party heirarchy that has seized upon the idea of 'soft power' as China's new Holy Grail in its search for superpower status." Chinese media is working with $6.6 billion to take their agenda global. What is working against them, however, is their limited knowledge of foreign markets as well as a general lack of quality in the broadcasts. China's choice to broadcast from Galveston, Texas has raised some eyebrows as well. A former radio host from the area questioned, "They're taking over the world and they're starting here? I guess they just took a wrong turn." Read the full Wall Street Journal article here.

With the recent Supreme Court
With the recent Supreme Court ruling that basically determined corporations are equivalent to living humans and can spend all they want to influence government - this kind of crap is just going to get worse. I suppose they can incorporate, pay themselves to broadcast their BS, and then deduct the cost from corporate taxes. The Tea Partyers should grab this by the neck and choke it to death. This REALLY IS a danger to democracy.
