Tomorrow in Charleston, West Virginia

AAM Action will lead a rally in Charleston, West Virginia tomorrow at 12:30 pm in support of 'Buy America' procurement.  As AAM Action field coordinator Lou Delatore explains, "Now that Congress has passed a stimulus bill, we need states to be transparent on where the stimulus money is spent. This is federal law and we want to make sure that money is spent in such a way that it creates job here in the U.S." The United Steelworkers have posted an informational fact sheet that explains how some contracting practices are used to skirt Buy America rules, either by "phased purchasing" or questionable "waivers."  At the West Virginia rally, hundreds of union members, retirees, labor leaders, state legislators, local businessess, and concerned voters will make it clear that tax dollars spent under Buy America rules must support American manufacturing whenever it is consistent with U.S. trade obligations. Delatore says that, ahead of the rally, a caravan will depart from Local 5668 Union Hall in Ravenswood, WVa. at 10:00 a.m. and travel to Charleston for the rally.  Interested participants can contact info@aamfg.org for more information. "Make Our Future Work" information is available here.
