How to read a map (aka job loss in your state)

There's been a lot of coverage of the Economic Policy Institute's new report on U.S. jobs lost due to the trade deficit with China. Both the New York Times and Wall Street Journal have cited the study's finding of 2.4 million jobs lost since 2001. A key point of the report is the jobs lost in every state, and in every Congressional district. Because the job loss is so widespread, and cuts across so many different sectors of the economy, the Alliance for American Manufacturing (AAM) designed an interactive map to illustrate exactly what's at stake:
The map has already proven to be particularly useful, with AAM receiving queries from both Congressional offices and reporters around the country. The Sacramento Bee was so impressed with the information provided by the interactive map that they decided to reproduce their own, California-specific map of jobs lost by district.
