Widespread coverage of new study on U.S. jobs lost due to trade deficit with China

map1 Yesterday, the Economic Policy Institute (EPI) released a new report detailing 2.4 million U.S. jobs lost due to the trade deficit with China since 2001.  EPI and the Alliance for American Manufacturing also co-hosted a press conference call with Sens. Charles Schumer (D-NY) and Lindsey Graham (R-SC).  Both the report's release and the conference call (in which Sen. Schumer said that the Senate is "fed up" with China's egregious cheating on trade--including currency manipulation) generated considerable press interest.  Reuters and AP covered the report, as did CNBC. Interest in China's currency rigging has built to a near fever pitch in Washington and, as even The Guardian detected from its perch across the pond, "the gloves are coming off."  Quite accurately, they observed that the new EPI report may add ammunition to calls for strong action on the currency issue.  (And wittily they added: "Whether Chinese internet users will be allowed to read the report is open to question").
