Richard McCormack Many of our readers are familiar with AAM's recent book, 'Manufacturing a Better Future for America.'  But they may not be as familiar with Richard McCormack--the book's editor (and the publisher of Manufacturing and Technology News). Recently, USW International President Leo Gerard sat down with McCormack to discuss the state of the troubled U.S. economy and what exactly can be done to rebuild the nation's manufacturing base.  The interview yielded some blunt, thought-provoking commentary from McCormack, who remains dedicated to rescuing America from the current recession.  All in all, the interview provides an excellent snapshot of just who McCormack is, and what he's fighting for. As an example, here's a particularly astute observation from early in the interview:
the defining (though little observed) event was when Wal-Mart overtook General Motors as the country’s largest employer. When that happened, the retail industry became one of the most powerful political entities in the country, replacing the manufacturing industry.
