AAM's Field Team has been visiting Congressional offices today to push the message that 'Buy America Works.'  We asked them to keep ManufactureThis posted on how their visits have been going.  Below are some quick summaries... Indiana Field Coordinator Rachel Bennett Steury reports on her visit with Sen. Joe Lieberman's office (I-CT), which was "very positive."  She said that Sen. Lieberman's people were very interested in the issue of waivers to Buy America purchasing requirements.  Rachel also visited the office of Sen. Maria Cantwell (D-WA) and said the Senator's top priority is jobs this year. The Senator's staff thought that AAM seemed impressive and want Sen. Cantwell to meet with AAM.  The Senator is supportive of section 1605 of the Recovery Act (Buy America provision) since the "international trade obligation" piece was added. AAM Field Coordinator Mike Mitchell reports on some meetings he conducted with Chris Lovitt, Jeff Rains, and Dan Lawson.  They had a "positive meeting" with the staff of Senator Roland Burris (D-IL).  Christopher Schepis, the Deputy Legislative Director, said they could count on the Senator's support for Buy America provisions in a jobs bill.  They also visited the office of Senator Olympia Snowe (R-ME) for a "very productive" meeting.  Mike reports that they met with Deputy Staff Director Matthew Walker to ask  for the Senator's support of Buy America as part of the jobs bill.  Walker  expressed the Senator's concerns for manufacturing  jobs and  that she would be in favor of Buy America provisions as part of a jobs bill.
