On July 24, the Westmoreland (PA) County Area Labor Management Committee gave its prestigious annual “Smiy Award” to the Alliance for American Manufacturing. The Smiy Award was created to honor the former CEO of the Elliott Corporation, Paul Smiy. Mr. Smiy has been a longtime supporter of good labor/management cooperation and one of the founding members of the WCALMC.
AAM Action Coordinator Ike Gittlen was on hand to receive the award along with AAM Action Staff Mickey Bolt, Mark Musho, Lou Delatore, and Ken Poweski. Close to 100 participants listened to the AAM story and applauded efforts on behalf of U.S. manufacturing and good jobs.
The new AAM book 'Manufacturing a Better Future for America' was provided to the Committee leadership. United States Steel and various USW Local Unions and their companies are active in the Committee.
