The Early Shift

The dominos are falling... trouble in the auto industry is spreading to suppliers.  Visteon Corporation, a Ford parts supplier, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy today. There is a disagreement in analysis of the latest U.S. manufacturing orders data.  The New York Times says a 1.9% increase in orders in April indicates that the manufactured goods orders "soared", while Bloomberg News ran the headline: "U.S. Durable-Goods Orders Hover Near 13-Year Low."  You be the judge. And even if you decide you do have something to smile about in today's economy, you won't be able to... in Virginia.  At least while getting your driver's licence.  Smiles are still OK in Maryland and D.C., though.
