Big Time Irony

China is being somewhat difficult on the subject of climate change. Apparently, China considers itself a "developing country"-- and thus should not be held to the same climate change goals as other industrialized nations. The Wall Street Journal reports that China believes "developed nations must cut their greenhouse gas emissions by at least 40% by 2020 from 1990 levels."
The big irony is that China has "steadfastly resisted any mandatory quotas on carbon emissions – even though it is widely considered to have surpassed the U.S. as the world's top polluter."
ManufactureThis can't help but laugh at China considering itself a "developing nation." Beijing holds roughly $2 trillion in foreign assets, has built high-speed rail systems throughout the country, and has launched men into space. It's now contemplating a lunar expedition. That is not the work of a poor, low-tech nation.
No, China must carry its weight and begin to follow the same emissions standards as other industrial powers.
