early-shift_thumbnail.jpg Chrysler may be the next American carmaker to head for bankruptcy.  This makes retired autoworkers very worried about the fate of their hard-earned benefitsSteel demand remains low.  Two of the many reasons:  weak demand for durable goods and cheating by global competitors. Brad Setser makes the point that it's not just the global imbalances that contributed to the current crisis, but more specifically and importantly the massive Sino-American trade imbalances--the result of PRC government trade policy and  investments in U.S. securities.
