A report from Netroots Nation

A guest column from AAM Field Coordinator Mark Musho...
As I write this on a plane headed to Las Vegas, I can’t help but notice my fellow travelers are not your ordinary business men or family vacationers. That may be because this already rum-soaked crowd is heading to Vegas...
Vegas that weird, strange, twisted playground in the desert. Take the guy sitting next to me who has already fallen into a coma-like stupor after emptying half the in-flight beverage cart. The man has the largest cue ball of a head I’ve ever seen on a fellow human being. In his lap is a dog-eared, worn copy of “Card Counting: How to win big”. As he snores away I’m pretty sure that huge cranium has the capacity for keeping track of the cards at the blackjack table. Oh yeah, Bubba is on a mission to break Vegas, but he is more likely to come away hungover and broke.
And how did I end up at this flying cocktail party? That would be work. I’ve been exiled into this desert to attend a gathering of electronic scribes known as Netroots Nation.
Netroots bills itself as a group who "amplifies progressive voices by providing an online and in-person campus for exchanging ideas and learning how to be more effective in using technology to influence the public debate.” At the Rio Casino and Hotel, attendees will spend the next 4 days going to workshops and listening to panel discussions on a wide array of subjects covering everything for Progressive politics to green technology. They will use these sessions to acquire new tools to electronically shape the political discussion. They also have slated some big hitters for keynote speakers including Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority leader Harry Reid. However, I don’t believe the Elvis look alike running up and down the aisle of the screaming “Winner Winner Chicken Diner” with the flight attendant in hot pursuit will be attending.
Vegas Baby!

I'd bet the house that Bubba is hitting the jackpot on the slots right now. Hopefully the Netroots conference will bring you more stories to share on how the progressives are progressing in support of a manufacturing strategy for us to get back to work. If this happens in Vegas....don't let it stay in Vegas!
