Alliance, Ohio: Alliance Castings Co. LLC will temporarily idle the plant located at 1001 E. Broadway St., a decision that will negatively impact at least 394 workers and the city as a whole. Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan: More Essar Steel Algoma Inc. employees will go on indefinite layoff.  There are currently about 500 hourly workers on indefinite layoff.  In just last week the number of displaced Essar workers increased by 150.  More than 900 Sault Ste. Marie steelworkers are unemployed as a result of the current global economic crisis, Auburndale, Florida: International Paper will close its Auburndale plant and lay off 96 employees by the end of June.  In addition to Auburndale, officials said they will close four facilities in Kansas, Wisconsin and Virginia, resulting in layoffs of more than 400 employees total.
