No More Made-in-USA Minivans

The Federal Transit Administration has issued a waiver for its Buy America final assembly requirement for minivans and minivan chassis due to requests from El Dorado National, Kansas and Chrysler Group LLC and because "no manufacturer has identified itself as willing and able to supply minivans or minivan chassis that are assembled in the United States."
The waiver is valuid until "such time as a domestic source becomes available."
The issuance of this waiver is another reminder that the United States is quickly losing its manufacturing grip on great American ideas and inventions, such as the minivan itself. To regain the ability to be self-sustaining in producing such iconic American goods, we need a sound manufacturing policy that will ensure that products can be made here.
