Leatherman

Upon fixing his car with a simple pocket knife, Tim Leatherman realized that the pocket knife failed to offer some critical tool functions that would have made the repair process much simpler, like pliers. So he got to work himself, and crafted the first Leatherman multi-tool out of used washing machine parts. Today, Leatherman’s more than 400 workers produce more than 8,000 tools per day at the company’s Portland, Ore., facility.
