Yet Another Poll Confirms What We've Been Saying: Rising Concerns About China

Posted by scapozzola on 01/20/2011

A new Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll shows that more Americans believe China will be the world’s dominant power in 20 years than think the U.S. will retain that position.  The margin was 38% to 35%.

Fears that the U.S. is losing ground to China were one of the key findings of a poll that the Alliance for American Manufacturing (AAM) conducted in 2010.  The AAM poll in turn confirmed a June 21, 2010, article in the Financial Times, which suggested that in 2011 the U.S. will lose its status as the top manufacturing nation to China, ending a 110-year run as the number one country.

could it be?

could it be because every conceivable item for purchase in the US is made in China? I understand the idea of an economy's comparative advantage but the Germans didn't give up on manufacturing and they have sailed through this financial crisis. Meanwhile, Americans are left selling pizzas and financial products to each other, and that's just not going to cut it.
