Transferring our military technology to China
Last week, we reported on China's booming aerospace industry. According to research conducted by RAND National Security Research, China’s aerospace industry has "advanced at an impressive rate over the past decade."
A particularly worrisome item that has emerged from the Rand study is transfer of sensitive military technology to China.
As Richard McCormack, at Manufacturing and Technology News reports in an assessment of the Rand Study [subscription only]:
Chinese government policies that require foreign companies to create joint ventures with Chinese companies, transfer technology and establish manufacturing facilities in China in order to sell there "are contributing to the development of [China's] military aerospace capabilities," since many technologies are used in both sectors. "There is also little doubt that this is a deliberate policy of the Chinese government," according to RAND's 142-page assessment of Chinese aerospace capabilities prepared for the U.S.-China Economic and Security Review Commission.
