Terry McAuliffe on Face the Nation: "We need a strategic plan to get manufacturing going"

Terry McAuliffe, former chair of the Democratic National Committee (DNC), and Ed Gillespie, former chair of the Republican National Committee (RNC), sat down with CBS’ Norah O’Donnell on Face the Nation to discuss President Obama’s low approval ratings.  When asked how Obama could get re-elected when three-fourths of America disapproves of his handling of the economy, McAuliffe offered a solution that the Alliance for American Manufacturing (AAM) has been touting for some time now:

“We’ve got to create jobs in this country. I am so sick and tired of political speeches where everybody talks about jobs. We need a plan to create jobs.”

And what does McAuliffe think should serve as the foundation of this plan? Again, his answer closely echoes our message:

“We’ve got to have a plan for a long-term strategic goal to get our manufacturing going, we need to sell products, [and] we need to make sure our children are getting an education so that they can compete globally."

McAuliffe also raises an excellent point regarding the public’s perception of the political brinkmanship they’ve witnessed in Congress for the past few months, and what lawmakers must do to regain public support:

“The public is sick of it…we need jobs [for our children.] We need to create manufacturing in this country. We’re losing it to China, India, Brazil and Germany… We’ve got to make products in America, we’ve got to buy American, and make it here in America.”
