Spokeswoman for Kansas Governor sees Buy American proposal as a "Good idea."
Yesterday, we reported on Kansas State Senate Minority Leader Anthony Hensley (D-Topeka) and Kansas House Minority Leader Paul Davis (D-Lawrence) proposing a "Buy American" law that would require state agencies to use U.S.-manufactured goods in public works projects.
According to the Wichita Eagle, Kansas Gov. Sam Brownback's (R-KS) spokeswoman Sherriene Jones-Sontag called the proposal a good idea. Jones-Sontag said a Buy American effort could complement legislation enacted this year to give companies a preference in seeking state contracts if they hire disabled workers.
The proposal specifies that state agencies would be required to use American-made goods in building and other public works projects, with exemptions if such goods are not readily available or would increase the cost of a project by more than 25 percent.
