Seriously: Make sure your pet wears American-made

Posted by LDonia on 01/14/2014

Well, January 14 is upon us. You know what that means – National Dress Up Your Pet Day! Can you believe it? Doesn’t it feel like the last Dress Up Your Pet Day just happened? The months really do fly by!

This year is extra special, too, as it’s the fifth anniversary of the holiday, which (for the uninitiated) was started by an animal behaviorist as a way for people to celebrate and enjoy their pets.

If you haven’t yet chosen an outfit for Rocky or Daisy (really, what kind of person waits ‘til the day of the holiday?) allow your friends at the Alliance for American Manufacturing (AAM) to offer some unsolicited advice: Go with an American-made garment.

One of the worst-kept secrets in international trade is that American pets don’t fare very well with products Made in China. So instead of buying the first pet outfit you find, do your furry (or feathered) family member a favor and buy one with a Made in the USA label.

You know where this is going … we have a suggestion!

Houston-based Funny Fur sells pet products of all kinds, including clothes, furniture, food, and toys. While many of the products on its site are made abroad, there is a very clearly labeled “Made in the USA” section. And the Made in the USA section has quite a variety of items to choose from.

If you’re going all out this holiday, you can’t go wrong with this sequin ruffle dress. But if that’s not right for your pup, there are many other options. Check out Funny Fur and be diligent! And don’t forget to click “Made in the USA” on the left.
