Senators urge legislation to improve transparency and reporting of Buy America preferences

U.S. Senators Sherrod Brown (D-OH), Jeff Merkley (D-OR), Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI), Robert Casey (D-PA), Amy Kornbluchar (D-MN), and Ben Cardin (D-MD) have sent a letter to their colleagues to urge support for improved Buy America language in the highway bill currently under consideration.

Specifically, their letter commends Amendment 1819, which would improve "transparency and reporting of the Department of Transportation's Buy America preferences, and closes a significant loophole that allows the unintended procurement of foreign iron, steel, and manufactured goods."

The Alliance for American Manufacturing (AAM) has been a strong advocate of strengthened Buy America preferences.  Concerned voters can contact their Members of Congress via AAM's "Take Action" system in order to say: "Don't Outsource the Construction of Our Infrastructure."
