New study shows manufacturing was bright spot in Massachusetts economy last year
When most people think of Massachusetts they probably think of quaint New England towns and devoted sports fans, not a thriving industrial base. Yet according to a new report from the University of Massachusetts, manufacturing is booming in the Bay State.
The study shows that manufacturing was a bright spot in the state’s economy last year, with manufacturers advertising more job openings than any other industry sector except for health care. According to the Boston Globe, “local manufacturers advertised nearly 73,000 jobs in 2011 - up 40 percent from the previous year.”
So, even though Massachusetts residents might not have a super bowl victory to celebrate, at least they can celebrate the fact that their state is performing well in one of the most crucial pillars of our economy.
