New report shows Chinese military is testing cyber warfare capabilities
According to a report released yesterday by the U.S.-China Economic and Security Review Commission (USCC), the Chinese military has been testing cyber warfare attack capabilities.
The Washington Post reports that “The People’s Liberation Army (PLA) probably would target transportation and logistics networks before an actual conflict to try to delay or disrupt the United States’ ability to fight.”
This report serves as the latest warning to legislators that China is rapidly advancing it’s cyber capabilities, and though there is no evidence that China could successfully launch attacks on U.S. targets, their activities should be closely monitored.
Even more alarming, the report says that the United States "lacks a policy to determine appropriate responses to a large-scale cyberattack on U.S. military or civilian networks in the event that the attacker’s identity cannot be conclusively determined.”
