House Republicans are unveiling their 21-page “Pledge to America” today.  Interestingly, there is not a word about trade.  The word “China” gets only one mention, and that is in reference to debt financing.  Something that's also missing from the document is any reference to “free trade” rhetoric.  This is a surprising omission,  but it suggests that some in the House GOP are starting to recognize that longstanding trade policy is NOT working.  It also means that Republicans in the House are tuning in to the results of AAM's recent national economic poll, which shows Americans are greatly concerned about the nation's declining manufacturing base. Now that some House Republicans have stopped saying the wrong thing, it's time for them to start saying the right thing.  They can vote for currency legislation, and take real action to address America's unbalanced trade relationship with China.  That will be the REAL test this year.
