McCaskill's tough on China stance at odds with her voting record

“Our trade policies need to work for America, but they have to work for Missouri.”

With this quote, Senator Claire McCaskill (D-MO) concludes one of her re-election ads.

The Alliance for American Manufacturing (AAM) couldn’t be more thrilled that outsourcing and trade with China have become important campaign issues.

When the Senate voted last fall on legislation to provide a process for U.S. manufacturers to file trade cases alleging an adverse impact from China’s currency manipulation, McCaskill was one of only four democrats to vote No. The bill passed the Senate with a vote of 63-35. McCaskill is not the only candidate beating the proverbial China-drum who voted against this kind of legislation. As we’ve previously mentioned, Congressman Paul Ryan is doing the same.
