Manufacturing Jobs & #EqualPay

Washington was abuzz this week after President Obama signed an executive order that will prohibit federal contractors from denying employees the right to discuss their compensation.  #EqualPay quickly became a trending topic, and the gender wage gap was thrust into the limelight.

While this was a step in the right direction, the Alliance for American Manufacturing (AAM) offers another idea: Manufacturing jobs.

A few months back, a study found that on average the monthly earnings of a newly hired factory worker were 38 percent more than in other industries. Jobs in the manufacturing industry give women and men alike the opportunity to have a stable, middle-class income.
