Manufacturing: Alive, Well, Local

Some may be quick to point to decaying monolithic infrastructure as proof of manufacturing’s permanent, irreversible decline. However, if you dig a little deeper, manufacturing is strong at the local level.
This weekend, the New York Times profiled SFMade and Made in N.Y.C., nonprofits that promote local businesses in San Francisco and New York City. Successful companies are upending traditional business paradigms, becoming more nimble and niche-oriented.
