Greetings from the Iron Range!

Virginia Mayor Louis Russo and Mountain Iron Mayor Gary Skalko welcomed a large crowd of Iron Range workers and citizens protesting unfair trading practices by foreign steelmakers, especially South Korea, which is dumping tubular products on the U.S. market and causing layoffs throughout America's domestic industry.

The crowd gathered in Hibbing was comprised of Steelworkers and members of Iron Range communities, many of them hoisting signs reading “Save Our Steel Jobs,” “Steel’s Our Strength,” and “#SOSJobs.”

Russo’s message was simple.  He simply held up a “Save Our Steel Jobs” sign.

Mayor Skalko, who was a teacher for 34 years, emphasized the importance of steel jobs to the area and wished the crowd Godspeed.

AAM President followed their remarks by leading a chant of “Mine it here,” the crowd responding, “Make it here.”
