Did you know: the Senate launches bipartisan auto caucus

Last week, Senator Rob Portman (R-OH) and Senator Carl Levin (D-MI) launched the Senate Auto Caucus focused on policy issues affecting America’s auto industry. Both senators have emphasized the importance of auto parts manufacturing and auto assembly to the overall U.S. American economy.

Said Senator Carl Levin:

Manufacturing is the path to the middle class for millions of Americans, and the auto industry is the heart of American manufacturing. The Auto Caucus will help us stay focused on helping advance the U.S. auto industry renaissance that is so important to millions of families and countless communities across the country.

The U.S. auto industry has helped drive a recovery in the manufacturing sector, recovering nearly half the jobs lost. Ford and BMW recently announced expansions that will add hundreds of jobs in Ohio and South Carolina.

And remember: Jobs in manufacturing pay on average 38 percent better than other private sector jobs. All the more reason to add more manufacturing jobs.
