Is China hiring workers or slaves from North Korea?
We often report on China's egregious labor abuse and human rights violations. And today is no different. According to the Los Angeles Times, China is now hiring "workers" from North Korea in exchange for cash sent directly to Pongyang.
Essentially, as the Times reports, the workers' wages will be sent back to North Korea.
You have to hand it to Beijing. Since North Korea is barred from exporting weapons due to international sanctions, they are simply exporting "guest workers" to raise cash. And Beijing has no qualms about enabling them.
As the L.A. Times reports:
“The deal, which has not been publicly announced by either Beijing or Pyongyang, would allow about 40,000 seamstresses, technicians, mechanics, construction workers and miners to work in China on industrial training visas, businesspeople and Korea analysts say. Most of the workers' earnings will go directly to the communist North Korean regime."
Yet another example of Beijing's blunt tactics and absolute indifference to accepted human rights conventions. This is the true face of the country with which the United States continues to rack up massive trade deficits.
