Checking Wal-Mart's Shelves for American-made goods, Part 10
Part 10 of our investigation into Wal-Mart’s Made in USA claim. Is Wal-Mart really selling more Made in USA goods in its stores?
Here’s what Darin Gilley found at a Wal-Mart in Eureka, Missouri. (Darin says that it's the first time in eight years he has been inside a Wal-Mart due to his belief that "they are one of the primary reasons for the loss of American manufacturing and exploding trade deficit.")
Darin had a simple test in mind. He would pick up the first 10 products he found and see where they were made. The following items are what he found.
• Pink Wave Travel Cup - $4.37, Made in China
• Hamilton Beach ½ pint Soft Serve Ice Cream Maker - $55.00, Made in China
• Rival 2 quart Ice Cream Maker - $22.88, Made in China
• Rival Mint Chocolate Chip Ice Cream Mix - $2.32, Made in USA
• Better Home and Garden Lawn Blanket - $15.00, Made in China
• Zipper Closure Umbrella Tablecloth - $4.88, Made in China
• Gator Shaped Boca Clips (2) - $5.97, Made in China
• Striped Round 14 inch Platter - $5.00, Made in China
• Mainstays Beach Towel (27 x 52 inch) - $3.88, Made in Pakistan
• Kitchen Helpers Pot Holder and Oven Mitt Set - $1.96, Made in China
Darin says: "9 out of 10 is bad! Disappointed is my reaction and at this rate it will be a long time before I return."
