Buy America policy at issue in new trade negotiations

As the Obama Adminstration slowly negotiates a potential Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP), there have been concerns that one part of the agreement could ban longstanding Buy America provisions.
The Alliance for American Manufacturing (AAM) has been particularly vocal in supporting Buy America preferences, which can help to support domestic manufacturing.
The possibility of the TPP impinging on Buy America policy has raised concerns among U.S. lawmakers. A group of 68 House Democrats and one Republican sent a letter to President Obama this week urging him to reconsider any potential ban on Buy America.
