Another U.S. industry faces potentially threatening competition from illegal foreign subsidies
Several Members of Congress have asked the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) to investigate whether foreign manufacturers of business jets are receiving illegal foreign subsidies.
At the request of Reps. Lynn Jenkins (R-KS) and Mike Pompeo (R-KS), Chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee Dave Camp (R-MI) has asked for an ITC investigation of the global competitiveness of the U.S. business jet industry.
In a statement, Congressman Pompeo was particularly blunt about the question of illegal subsidies:
Cessna, Hawker Beechcraft, and Bombardier-LearJet, along with every American manufacturer, deserve a fair and level playing field devoid of market-distorting foreign government subsidies. With half of all US-built general aviation aircraft heading overseas, and the export market continuing to grow, it is more important than ever to ensure that no nation is illegally subsidizing their own general aviation industry.
