American-made men's briefs
Here's an interesting fact: Approximately 99% of the men's underwear sold in America is made in China, Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam.
However, a new U.S. start-up company, Flint and Tinder, aims to change that.
Jake Bronstein, a New York-based entrepreneur, says that a trip to Macy's convinced him to start manufacturing underwear in the U.S.:
"I was looking at the tags, trying to find the right pair," Bronstein explains, "when I realized that not one of the brands they carry comes from America."
Apparently, only one of the the top 50 brands currently making men's underwear is actually made in USA.
Bronstein said that he searched for a U.S. factory capable of producing the product he had in mind. Eventually he found a solar-powered factory that had originally been set-up to make high-end T-shirts.
Success came quickly, however, once the company started on full production, selling 10,000 pairs in the first week.
Bronstein says the key to success for his business is quality:
"We're not asking people to buy something because it's made in America. We're making a better product, using only the best materials (Supima cotton grown in California, custom elastic from Florida, etc.), and oh, by the way, it's made in America!"
A plus for the U.S. economy, though, is that for each 1,000 pairs sold, one sustainable job has to be added back at the factory.
Congrats to Flint and Tinder on "Keeping it Made in America."
