The Atlantic/National Journal has released a Heartland Monitor poll on where America stands comissioned by Allstate, the National Journal and the Atlantic. Yesterday, the group held a briefing and discussion at the National Press Club where Gary Locke gave a keynote speech about the state of the American economy.

Though the poll differed in some aspects from from an AAM poll released this past summer, many of the results pointed to the same conclusions: Americans don't believe that America is number one anymore.

The poll also concluded the following about manufacturing:

Central to Americans' sense of economic precariousness, the poll suggests, are intertwined concerns about the rise of global economic integration and the decline of U.S. manufacturing. Near the root of the unease for many of those polled is the worry that the United States no longer makes enough stuff.
